Breed - French Bulldog

Brief overview - The French Bulldog can claim part of its ancestry in Great Britain, going back to the 1850’s when a dwarf Bulldog breed known as the Toy Bulldog was popular in some parts of the country. From 2009 to 2015 the registrations for the breed increased, in 2015 the French Bulldog was ranked third most popular breed in the UK.

Grooming tip - Keep eyes, wrinkles and facial folds clean from dirt and debris.

Interesting fact - French prostitutes were the first to call dogs the breed "Bouledogues Francais," or French Bulldogs.

Breed - Pug

Brief overview - The Chinese passion for short faced and small breeds, might well have been responsible for the development of the Pug. It is thought that traders from the Dutch East India Company took dogs of this type from China back to the Netherlands in the 16th Century.

Grooming tip - Brush the coat all over every couple of days, zoom grooms are amazing to remove undercoat. It is also important to clean the wrinkle over the nose, removing dirt and debris. Did you know fawn coloured pugs moult more than the blacks because of their colour!

Interesting fact - A group of pugs is called a grumble.

Breed – Dachshund

Brief overview - Originating in Germany where he is known as the Teckel (badger dog) the Dachshund, is still used for tracking. In his native country there are three sizes: standard, miniature and Kaninchen. There are three coat types in each variety: the Smooth haired, the Long haired and the Wire haired. 

Grooming tip – All sausages need grooming, the easiest being the smooth haired sausage. The long haired needs brushing daily and a good combing straight after to avoid matting. The wire haired sausages need Hand Stripping using specialist techniques to remove the dead hair.

Interesting fact – The official mascot of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games was a colourful Dachshund named Waldi.

To mark Black Friday and the start of the festive season, we are adding some cheer with a FREE Coaching Course! Being delivered by the wonderful Tony Monticelli, the course is an insight into ways we can adapt our coaching methods to suit our learners, supporting their training and development. 

So whether you teach dog grooming, mentor animal care apprentices or coach in a business, this course is for you and a great one to add to your CV or personal development log. The course will be run live over Microsoft Teams at 10am and 2pm on Friday 27th November and a recording will also be made for those who need to watch into the evening.
