At iPET Network our whole team have stories that show the route to your career is not linear and sometimes reflection on the bigger picture can reassure. Your results do not define your future and this is just a small part of your life. In today's dynamic world, educational paths are no longer set in stone. The emergence of alternative qualifications, like those offered by iPET Network, allows students to explore diverse opportunities beyond traditional academia, whether that's entering the workforce or pursuing new passions.

EVERYONE has options for their studies and career plans and in this article, we try to highlight them.

A Level Results: The Rollercoaster of Expectations

Every August, students across the UK eagerly await their A Level results, a defining moment that often shapes their future endeavours. The anticipation leading up to this day can be both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. For some, the results may align perfectly with their expectations, opening doors to prestigious universities and coveted courses. These students are rewarded for their consistent efforts and dedication to their chosen subjects.

On the flip side, there are those who might find their results falling short of their aspirations. Disappointment can be overwhelming, and it's crucial to remember that these moments don't define your worth or potential. A Level results are just one part of a much larger journey, and there are various paths available for those who are willing to explore alternative avenues.

Retake your exams

Not got the grades you were after? Then look to retake your exams and keep up with the study.  Nerves can be a big factor in success and we recommend working on maintaining your calm during your exams. Hopefully they won’t be as daunting the next time and you have more time to prepare and revise the vital areas.

Further Education

Further Education or FE, is studies that take place after secondary education (usually after GCSE’s). AS and A levels are a form of FE but there are a number of other options including vocational and technical courses. These programmes are typically the stepping stone to Higher Education but are by no means the only way in!

Higher Education

Higher Education or HE courses are open for applicants aged 18 years or older. They can be found online but they’re usually taught in:

  1. Universities
  2. Colleges
  3. Specialist institutions like art schools or agricultural colleges

Higher education qualifications include:

  1. Diplomas
  2. Bachelor degrees
  3. Foundation degrees
  4. Post-graduate degrees

Working out which qualification or course can be a challenge with so many options each having varying entry requirements.  We recommend seeking advice from UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) regarding the courses available in the study areas you require. The world of education changed rapidly during COVID and courses are now accessible through online means which open doors for those even in the most remote locations.  iPET Network have embraced the technological advances too enabling courses in the animal care and veterinary science sector to be promoted in new places.

Apprenticeships

Full time study can be a challenge when the pressure of the ‘real world’ come calling.  We all have bills to pay and things we desire that take finances to achieve.  Apprenticeships are an excellent way to earn whilst you learn, developing skills and knowledge on the job in an employed setting.  Many different organisations offer apprenticeships with the ability to study at level 2 right through to level 7. The training is provided on the job with time out of the business given to study. iPET Network is an End Point Assessment Organisation for apprenticeships including popular choices such as Level 2 Dog Groomer Apprenticeship, Equine Groom Apprenticeship and Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare.  But how do you land an apprenticeship? Find an employer and ask the question! Visit Apprenticeships | National Careers Service for more details and current vacancies.

Employment

If you think heading into employment is for you but you haven’t found an apprenticeship, look for the wider opportunities an organisation can offer along with any internal training programmes available. iPET Network works closely with a range of employers, creating their training programmes and ensuring they give the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the role.  Successful accomplishment of internal training programmes builds your CV and makes you more desirable as an employee.  Most people are unlikely to stay in the same job forever, so building your CV and embracing opportunities should be high on your list and for us, working in the animal world is the dream!

The Rise of iPET Network Qualifications

In recent years, iPET Network qualifications have gained traction as a viable alternative to traditional academic routes in the Animal Care and Veterinary Science Sector. iPET Network offers a range of vocational qualifications that provide learners with practical skills and knowledge in various fields. What sets these qualifications apart is their recognition by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), which assigns them UCAS points equivalent to A Levels.

This recognition opens doors for students who wish to pursue further education at universities or colleges. iPET Network qualifications provide a unique pathway for those who have different learning styles or career aspirations that may not align with traditional A Level subjects. These qualifications cater to a diverse range of interests within the animal care sector such as Dog Grooming, Cat Grooming, Canine Nutrition, Small Animal Husbandry and Equine to name a few.

At iPET Network we promote qualifications that support learners in their journey. Sometimes our learners know exactly the path they want to take and look for the most direct route to their goals, but for others, their learning is not with a specific purpose in mind.

If you have an interest in animals, whether or not this in intended as a career, you can study to expand your knowledge with the added benefit of having more evidence of your ability.

Embracing Diverse Opportunities

One of the most exciting aspects of iPET Network qualifications is the versatility they offer. These qualifications not only provide a path to higher education but also equip students with the skills needed to enter the workforce directly. This is particularly valuable in today's rapidly evolving job market, where practical skills and experience often hold as much weight as formal degrees.

Moreover, iPET Network qualifications empower students to pivot and explore new directions. If your A Level results weren't as expected or if you've developed new interests, iPET Network qualifications provide an opportunity to shift gears and pursue a different path. For instance, you might have studied biology at A Level but developed a passion for animal care. iPET Network's animal care qualifications could be the perfect way to bridge the gap between your academic background and your newfound passion.
