EQUINE STRANGLES AWARENESS WEEK //
1st-7th May 2023 is Equine Strangles Awareness Week and we at iPET Network are passionate about equipping people with the skills & knowledge to safeguard horses, particularly from diseases such as Strangles which can be life-threatening if left undiagnosed or not contained effectively from spreading.
Do you know what the average horse's vitals are and how you would check these?
The Level 3 Award in Equine Emergency First Aid qualification covers how to take a horse's TPR and much more.
Remember "Hot before Snot" - if a horse is running a high temperature then this could be an indicator that they are suffering with the highly infectious disease Strangles before other symptoms present themselves, such as mucous from the nose and a lack of energy.
In the event of a suspected outbreak, quarantine the infected horse away from other horses and seek veterinary advice immediately.
