KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & BEHAVIOURS - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? - WEEK 2: SKILLS //
Apprentices can make a huge impact on the success of a business, they can be fundamental to achieving a organisation's business objective.
Week 2 - "Skills"
Once the underpinning knowledge has been developed in line with the apprenticeship standard, the apprentice will start to apply the knowledge in a practical manner directly to a skill. The employer plays a huge role in supporting and preparing the apprentice for the EPA.
Training Provider Top Tips
1. Support the employer with a 20% off-the-job delivery plan - the activities should mirror the EPA plan and develop the KSBs to support the employer in preparing the apprentice to achieve a ‘distinction’ grade.
2. Regularly video the apprentice and encourage them to watch the recording back - the apprentice should evaluate and reflect on their own performance.
3. Embed the apprenticeship standard gradings from enrolment.
4. Set practical SMART targets and review them in a timely manner.
Employer Top Tips
1. Read and understand the relevant apprenticeship end point assessment plan.
2. Allow the apprentice to take the time and observe an experienced person within the vocation.
3. Deliver face-to-face direct practical training, this can be in line with a 20% off-the-job delivery plan your training provider may provide you with.
4. Create you own bespoke 20% off the job delivery, ensure this does cover all of the KSBs detailed in the End Point Assessment Plan.
5. Ask your Learning Coach to also review the videos and provide some additional guidance to enhance performance and stretch the apprentice to the highest grade possible.
