Level 2 Award in Responsible Dog Ownership

6th, Apr 2022 General News

Dog ownership in the UK is at an all time high, and many people are looking after a puppy or dog for the first time ever in their lives.

This can create problems with welfare and socialisation that well-meaning owners may not even know exist, so a new Ofqual regulated qualification has been devised to teach new dog parents everything they need to know.

International Awarding Organisation iPET Network has created a Level 2 Qualification in Responsible Dog Ownership, which teaches learners everything from how to choose the right dog for them, to understanding the law around dog ownership.

Speaking about the course iPET Network co-director Sarah Mackay, said: "Completion of this qualification provides an excellent platform for progression into dog ownership and/or completing further study in the subject area.

The qualification has been developed in collaboration with animal care educators, veterinary professionals and other related canine industry experts to ensure that it meets the needs of current and future dog owners, driving forward improved standards of welfare, care and responsibility."

And explaining what candidates can expect to learn on the course, iPET Network co-director Fern Gresty added: "The qualification offers an in-depth look at how to correctly match a dog to an owner to ensure a lasting relationship, understanding the importance of obtaining a dog from an appropriate source.

"It offers an overview of the law in relation to dog ownership, enabling owners to fully appreciate their responsibilities and develops understanding of the general care and health requirements of dogs throughout all stages of their lives."
